Is there a Wrench in the OpenDocument Works?

A reporter asks me what I know about a challenge to the adoption of OpenDocument in Massachusetts.

About an hour ago I received a call from a reporter asking whether I knew anything about a challenge to Massachusett’s adoption of OpenDocument. According to the reporter, he had been informed by the office of Secretary of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin that the Secretary “would not approve” the new OpenDocument policy.

This is the first I have heard of any such plans, although as I reported earlier it’s true that the 157 comment letters received by the Information Techology Division during the last public comment period included seven critical letters from public officials (including a number of state legislators).

Does the Secretary have the authority “not to approve” OpenDocument?

Hopefully we’re not about to find ourselves in a situation where we need to find out. .
