Abstract
The European Standardization System (ESS) has been a central element in the delivery of the single European market, in particular, through the use of Directives in key areas under the "New Approach" policy, integrated into the New Legislative Framework. As well as supporting the regulatory framework, studies at the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels in various European countries and around the world have demonstrated the clear benefits of standards and standardization to the wider economy.
