Abstract
Fairfield Resources International has conducted a study, with financial support from a wireless equipment maker, of intellectual property related to GSM cellular technology. This technology is embodied in standards documents published by the Third Generation Partnership Project, accessible at www.3gpp.org. The aims of the study are to examine the nature of the technology covered by the intellectual property, the ownership of the intellectual property and the extent to which technical experts judge the intellectual property to be technically essential to implementing the standards.
