U.S. Government Initiative Boosts Standards

A provision of a recently enacted Federal law has given strong reinforcement to the standards movement, and could re-energize the formation of standard-setting consortia. The National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act of 1996, is part of an overall government effort to increase the efficiency and lower the costs of government procurement in the technology area.
