Standard Setting Organization and Standards List
- Applications, Development Tools, etc.-
More and more software is being created using the open source methodology. The open source concept solves some problems traditionally addressed through the use of standards, but still relies on standards when it is put into practical use, as do other types of software. Organizations involved in open source projects are of many types, from W3C, which facilitates the creation of open source software based on the standards that it also creates, to the GNU Project, which promotes the GNU Public License, to various organizations which create or add to operating systems (like Linux) and applications (like Eclipse.org). To learn more about open source software, see: What does "Open" Mean? (A Guide to Open Source and Open Standards) and OpenSourceLegal.org

To use this list, click on an organization's name to view a description of that organization and to access links that will take you to its homepage and (if relevant and available) its IPR policy.
