Mobile Payment Forum (MPF)

Overview: The Mobile Payment Forum was launched in November 2001 to create a framework for standardized, secure and authenticated mobile payments, based on payment card accounts. MPF intended to act as the bridge between the mobile and financial industries. It was established by American Express, JCB Co. Ltd., MasterCard International, and Visa International. Member companies included organizations involved in initiating, processing, and delivering mobile payments: telecommunications operators, payment card companies, financial institutions, device manufacturers, merchants, content providers, and software and hardware infrastructure vendors. MPF's objectives included creating specifications, best practices, and use cases that addressed cardholder authentication, passwords, encryption, and other areas of mobile payment.
