Overview: GreenTouch is a consortium of leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, academic, and non-governmental research experts dedicated to transforming communications and data networks, including the Internet, and significantly reducing the carbon footprint of ICT devices, platforms, and networks. GreenTouch was initiated by AT&T, Bell Labs, China Mobile, Samsung, Huawei, Freescale, CEA-LETI, INRIA (The National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control), IMEC (Interuniversitair Micro-Elektronica Centrum), France Telecom Orange Labs, Swisscom, Portugal Telecom, and the University of Melbourne’s Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society (IBES). The goal of GreenTouch is to achieve a 1000% improvement from 2010 levels in the future energy efficiency of the Internet and other networks that support communications, commerce, and entertainment.
