Power.org

Overview: Power.org was formed to allow developers, tool providers and manufacturers to collaborate on industry standards and applications based on Power Architecture™ technology. Power.org's mission is to develop, enable and promote Power Architecture technology as the open standard hardware development platform for the electronics industry and to administer qualification programs that optimize interoperability and accelerate innovation for a positive user experience. Power.org objectives include delivering: open standards and specifications; business guidelines documents; best practices and education; and certifications to validate implementations and drive adoption. Company members and developers will represent a variety of industries from around the world and parts of the Electronics value chain. [The organization was formed around the same "PowerPC" chip that was the subject of an earlier consortium more than a decade before, the PowerOpen Consortium. That organization was formed as part of a brief alliance between Apple, Motorola and IBM in an attempt to try and seize the desktop form the Win/Tel architecture.]
