Overview: Global Platform was founded in 1999 by Visa, Mastercard, Amex and other participants in the card industry to create specifications and infrastructure for secure "smartcards" (i.e., cards with microprocessors and multiple applications). GlobalPlatform: advances standards for multiple application smart card growth and infrastructure; coordinates among smart card issuers, vendors, industry groups, public entities, and technology suppliers to define requirements and technology standards for multiple application smart cards; and develops models and conventions to facilitate cross-industry application loading and management, such as back-end card systems, security, key management and application deployment. GlobalPlatform is a cross industry, non-profit association which identifies, develops and publishes specifications that promote the secure and interoperable deployment and management of multiple applications on secure chip technology. Its technical specifications focus on the secure element (SE), trusted execution environment (TEE), and system messaging.
