Overview: GS1 US, the GS1 Member Organization in the US (formerly the Uniform Code Council, Inc.), is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the adoption and implementation of standards-based global supply-chain solutions. GS1 US solutions are based on GS1 global unique numbering and identification systems, bar codes, Electronic Product Code-based RFID, data synchronization, and electronic information exchange. GS1 US also manages the United Nations Standard Products and Services Code (UNSPSC). GS1 US publishes the following Electronic Data Interchange guidelines based on the ANSI ASC X12 standard: Industrial/Commercial EDI, Uniform Communication Standard (UCS) (used in the grocery industry), and VICS EDI (used in the general merchandise retail industry).
