Overview: Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) was launched on 19 November 2007. The primary objective of the VCS is to bring standardization, transparency and credibility to the voluntary carbon market. The mission of the VCS is to work with global public and private sector leaders to lead a greenhouse gas reduction program that delivers worldwide massive emission reductions. VCS does this by: providing a program that brings quality assurance to voluntary carbon markets; creating rules and tools that provide new options for carbon crediting to businesses, non-profits, and government entities; sharing knowledge and encouraging best practice in carbon markets for developing markets while top-down regulations take shape.
