Overview: StopBadware is a non-profit organization that works with individuals and partner organizations - including Google, PayPal, and Mozilla - to fight against viruses, spyware, and other badware. The organization began as a project of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University before spinning off as a standalone organization in 2010. It is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. StopBadware provides Internet users with information about badware; helps website owners protect their sites from badware; offers resources and community support to owners of compromised sites; engages web hosts and other key service providers to help them address badware websites within their zones of control; encourages companies to proactively share data and knowledge with one another; and leads collaborative information-sharing efforts that create greater security for all stakeholders.
