Overview: Established in November 2007 and incorporated as a not-for-profit charity in 2009, the purpose of the DataPortability Project is to put existing data portability technologies, techniques, policies and initiatives in context in order to facilitate translation, education, advocacy and ultimately implementation. Portability is defined as both physically moving data or simply porting the context in which the data is used. Data portability is the ability for people to reuse their data across interoperable applications - the ability for people to be able to control their identity, media, and other forms of personal data.
