DataPortability Project

Overview: Established in 2007 and incorporated as a not-for-profit charity in 2009, the purpose of the DataPortability Project is to put existing data portability technologies, techniques, policies, and initiatives in context, in order to facilitate translation, education, advocacy, and ultimately implementation. "Portability" is defined as physically moving data or simply porting the context in which the data is used. Data portability is the ability for people to reuse their data across interoperable applications - the ability for people to be able to control their identity, media, and other forms of personal data.
