Overview: BioForge acted as the internet based-platform for the use of new "public-good binding licenses" (the BIOS License). The BIOS License was a protected commons in which projects could be initiated and developed toward enabling technology for biological innovations of all kinds. Its implementation used a collaborative software platform provided by CollabNet. BioForge also acted as an Internet-based platform of tools that enabled scientists in diverse locations to find out about, and work together with, those who were positioned to apply their research. BioForge's enabling technologies were available for use through specially constructed BIOS licenses that imposed conditions to maintain the technology's availability for further innovation. Bioforge was part of CAMBIA's BIOS Initiative, which already provided informatics support for innovators who surveyed the technological possibilities and intellectual property constraints around potential inventions using Patent Lens™.
