Overview: The RTCA (Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics), originally founded in 1935, is a US volunteer organization that develops technical guidelines for use by government regulatory authorities and by industry. It has over 200 committees and functions as an advisory body to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Member organizations represent various sectors of the aviation community, including government organizations, airlines, airspace user and airport associations, labor unions, and aviation service and equipment suppliers. RTCA's objectives include: ensuring the safety and reliability of airborne systems; developing minimum operational performance requirements for document-specific systems; developing guidelines for use by a regulatory authority; and providing administrative and logistics resources for teamwork among the global aviation community.
