Local Interconnect Network Consortium (LIN)
Overview: The Local Interconnect Network Consortium (LIN) developed the LIN Specification, which implements a hierarchical vehicle network in order to gain enhancement and cost reduction of vehicles. The specification covers, in addition to the definition of the protocol and the physical layer, the definition of interfaces for development tools and application software. The goal of the standardization was to reduce the manifold of existing multiplex solutions and to cut the cost of development, production, service, and logistics in vehicle electronics. Typical applications for the LIN bus are assembly units such as doors, steering wheel, seats, climate regulation, lighting, rain sensor, or alternator. LIN concluded its work with the finalization of the LIN Specification 2.2.A, which was accepted as ISO standard ISO 17987 Part 1-7.
