Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA)

Overview: Founded in 1984, CTIA industry committees develop positions on issues of importance to the wireless industry, such as taxation, roaming, safety, regulations, fraud, and technology, and represents the wireless industry on those issues in contacts with policy makers in the Executive Branch, the Federal Communications Commission, and Congress. The mission of CTIA includes: expanding the "Wireless Frontier"; distributing timely, factual, and reliable information to members, policymakers, the investment community, customers, and the news media on the latest policy and technical developments; coordinating the industry's efforts to be responsible and responsive to concerns about wireless health and product usage issues; operating an equipment testing and certification program; and running an anti-fraud program involving detection, prevention, investigation, and research. CTIA represents all sectors of wireless communications, including cellular, personal communication services, and enhanced specialized mobile radio. Its members include service providers, manufacturers, wireless data and Internet companies, and other contributors to the wireless universe.
