Overview: The Cooperation Platform for Research and Standards (COPRAS) attempts to improve the interface between research and standards. It is run by three European Standards Organizations - CEN, CENELEC & ETSI - together with the Open Group and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). COPRAS is a 3-year Specific Support Action under the European Union's Information Society Technologies (IST) program. The overall strategic objective of COPRAS is to establish a supporting action to enable the FP6 IST projects to interface with the standardization activities in Europe and elsewhere in a consistent and effective manner while promoting standards awareness within the research and technical development area. A key objective of the IST program is to ensure European leadership in the generic and applied technologies at the heart of the knowledge economy. The standards program for eEurope will facilitate the adoption of the research results and provide feedback about their acceptance and problems in their use. COPRAS will serve act as a link between the objectives of the IST FP6 program and eEurope.
