Coral Consortium

Overview: The Coral Consortium focused on creating an open technology framework that facilitated interoperability among content distribution channels that use different Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies. The Consortium consisted of content providers, service providers, and consumer electronics manufacturers. Coral also addressed usability difficulties facing consumers of digital content by enabling interoperability between different content formats, devices, and content distribution services. The ultimate goal of Coral was to provide consumers with a uniform experience independent of details associated with differences in DRM and other content distribution technologies while simultaneously meeting the content protection and management needs of content providers and other participants in the content distribution value chain. Coral planed to publish specifications for interfaces and core services that promote interoperability among disparate DRM systems and media formats, as well as publish example implementations. *Dissolved in 2012
