Overview: The SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) Forum provides information on successful SIP applications and deployments, directs activities aimed at achieving high levels of product interoperability, and facilitates the integration of SIP with other areas of work on the Internet. SIP is used as a protocol for setting up conferencing, telephony, multimedia and other types of communication sessions on the Internet. SIP may also be used for new types of communications, such as instant messaging and application level mobility across various networks, including wireless, and across user devices. The Forum promotes SIP as the technology of choice for multimedia/real-time communication session control throughout the Internet, corporate networks and within next generation wireless networks.
