Overview: OpenForum Europe aims to strengthen the perception and credibility of the Open Source business case, particularly within government and commercial organizations and within the context of open verifiable standards. The Forum delivers advice to business about open source solutions, attempting to raise awareness of real experience as well as the benefits and issues surrounding open source, while removing perceived and actual impediments. OpenForum Europe is designed as a non-technical initiative and its focus is on the commercial benefit for the user organization. The Forum is an initiative of the IT Forum Foundation and its membership includes vendors and distributors, software houses, services and integration companies, as well as major users. OpenForum Europe was launched on March 12, 2002 in London. At the launch, OpenForum Europe and the National Computing Centre announced that they had agreed to partner on the acceleration in usage of Open Source in the business community.
