Law Enforcement Information Technology Standards Council (LEITSC)

Overview: The Law Enforcement Information Technology Standards Council (LEITSC), funded through the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), fostered the growth of strategic planning and implementation of integrated justice systems with such objectives as: promoting the merits of information technology standards; providing advice to the nation's law enforcement community on technical aspects of IT standards; sharing practical solutions; and representing the voice of law enforcement in the expansion of justice and public safety information technology standards. To accomplish these objectives, the Council hoped to: influence and facilitate the development of IT standards for justice communities to enable information sharing and interoperability; educate and encourage the law enforcement community to adopt established standards, as well as involve industry in the process; to act as a conduit to collaborative justice IT initiatives; to identify, promote and collect standards specifically pertaining to law enforcement communities. *Dissolved in 2007
