Overview: The Advanced Switching Interconnect SIG (ASI SIG) promoted Advanced Switching as the communications, storage, server, and embedded system industries' fabric and switched interconnect standard. Advanced Switching (AS), based on the PCI Express architecture, is an emerging technology that allows for the standardization of proprietary based backplanes. The purposes of the ASI SIG include: promoting its specifications as industry-wide standards; publishing the specification; issuing design, programming and compliance guidelines relating to its specifications; presenting activities that promote the use of the specifications; and providing for the licensing of the specifications on reasonable and non-discriminatory terms. *In February of 2007 the ASI SIG disbanded and transferred its specifications and documentation to PICMG.
