Overview: The Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development (ACORD) is an insurance association that facilitates the development and use of standards for the insurance, reinsurance and related financial services industries. ACORD accomplishes its mission by remaining an objective, independent advocate for sharing information among diverse platforms. In 2000 and 2001, ACORD expanded its strategic alliances in the pursuit of standards-based, straight-through processing. ACORD standards are being mapped and harmonized to other industry and cross-industry standards implemented in various countries and regions throughout the world. ACORD's participation in global cross-industry groups ensures standards interoperability between industries, and its joint initiatives and working groups seek to achieve interoperability within the insurance and financial services while also preventing duplication of standard-setting efforts.
