Overview: Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) enables access to geographic information through the coordinated actions and efforts of member nations and organizations. It promotes awareness and implementation of complimentary policies, common standards and mechanisms for the development and availability of interoperable digital geographic data and technologies to support decision making at all scales for multiple purposes. GSDI's goals include: articulating the operational environment needed to achieve Global SDI compatibility; helping to build globally compatible SDI capacity; educating decision-makers on the benefits of GSDI; assuring that different SDI related policies can be facilitated by the GSDI; and advancing the DSGI mission until a global SDI is achieved. The GSDI Steering Committee includes representatives from all continents, and all sectors - government, academia, and the private sector.
