Trusted Electronics Communications Forum (TECF)
Overview: The Trusted Electronics Communications Forum (TECF) was announced on June 16, 2004. The focus of TECF was to combat "phishing", "spoofing" and other types of identity fraud and brand abuse. Its members represented a range of retail, telecommunications, financial services, banking, and technology companies, including founding members IBM, BestBuy, E*Trade, and Fidelity Investments. The goal of the organization was to curtail behaviors that threatened the credibility and utility of e-mail marketing and e-commerce generally. TECF's announced initiatives included the promotion of standards for technology and best practices, and the prosecution of phishers and other offenders. The initial four working groups of TECF were intended to formulate and/or validate techniques and tools that specifically addressed the high-risk threats identified by the organization.
