Java Card Forum (JCF)

Overview: The Java Card Forum (JCF) develops and recommends specifications to the Smart Card division of Sun Microsystems, Inc., owner of the Java Card API specification. The JCF's activities are intended to promote the Java Card API specification as the industry standard. Other objectives of the JCF include: exchanging technical information among members about Java Card and its implementation; proposing to SUN Microsystems any useful improvement to the Java Card API specification; providing technical input to chip suppliers for chips embedded with Java Card implementations; and fostering dialogue among software suppliers regarding Java Card API. The primary customers for Java-based smart cards include companies and agencies in the financial, telecommunications, health care, transportation and information technology industries. The JCF also has established the Strategic Partner Program to enable companies that are involved in specifying or issuing smart cards to participate in the requirements definition process.
