Multiband OFDM Alliance (MBOA)

Overview: The Multiband OFDM Alliance (MBOA) was formed in 2003 to develop solutions for the market in ultrawideband-based technology, and included over 90 companies. These companies supported a UWB specification based on an OFDM approach, originally introduced by Texas Instruments in 2003, which enables a range of applications. The MBOA worked to create a Multiband OFDM specification for UWB PHY technology and worked with UWB standards bodies such as IEEE, WiMedia, Wireless USB Promoter Group, 1394 TA, CEA, and other worldwide regulatory agencies, to promote and seek specific approval for MBOA-based devices. The MBOA also conducted tests to ensure a solution with the maximum coexistence characteristics possible with future and incumbent wireless services. There existed various technical subcommittees dedicated to developing and improving specifications in areas ranging from system definition, MAC, MAC-PHY interface, scalability, regulatory, and ranging. Members included companies from industries such as consumer electronics, personal computing, home entertainment, mobile phone, semiconductor, and digital imaging spaces. *Merged with WiMedia Alliance in 2005
