Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA)

Overview: The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) was founded in 1998 with the goal of helping to ensure adoption of a single, unified phoneline networking industry standard. HomePNA was a high-speed networking (LAN) technology that used existing phone wires in a person’s home to share a single Internet connection with several PCs in a person’s home. In addition, HomePNA promoted interoperable home networking solutions. The primary objectives of HomePNA were to: ensure mass deployment of a high-speed "no-new-wires" solution for in-home, phoneline-based networking; develop certification standards to ensure interoperability among HomePNA member company products from a broad range of technology and equipment vendors; and achieve industry standardization both nationally and internationally through deployment and acceptance of HomePNA by appropriate standards bodies. HomePNA offered a seal that appeared on all HomePNA members' compliant products and ensured consumers that those products had met the Alliance's standards and tests for interoperability. *Merged with HomeGrid Forum in 2013
