Electronic Industries Alliances (EIA)

Overview: The Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) was a standards and trade organization composed as an alliance of trade associations for electronics manufacturers in the United States. They developed standards to ensure the equipment of different manufacturers was compatible and interchangeable. The Alliance was a partnership of electronic and high-tech associations and companies whose mission was promoting the market development and competitiveness of the U.S. high-tech industry through domestic and international policy efforts. EIA comprised more than 2,500 member companies whose products and services were used by defense, space, and industry, including the full range of consumer electronic products. As a policy advocate, EIA focused on the areas of international trade and market access; the environment; broadband; and Internet security. *Dissolved December 2010. EIA standards are maintained by the Electric Components Association (ECA)
