Telework Consortium

Overview: The Telework Consortium was an initiative of the Software Productivity Consortium, formed to assess field-ready hardware and software, management processes, infrastructure configurations, measurement techniques, and best practices to speed adoption of designs and technologies for working and collaborating from remote locations. The Telework Consortium objectives included: encouraging the spread of ultra-bandwidth telework; establishing telework in the private and public sectors; enhancing the security of managers, employees, workplaces, installations, and information; reducing the costs of such variables as traffic congestion and real estate; and playing a role in the economic development of rural America. The Telework Consortium tested collaborative technologies in the Telework Lab. The range of tools explored include: email, file sharing and file management, virtual white board, voice-over-IP, and both basic video and high quality video. The consortium worked with development partners to create Telework Pilots to test collaborative technologies and measure the change in human performance and the other costs and benefits of remote collaboration.
