Overview: EPCglobal is a joint venture between EAN International and the Uniform Code Council (UCC) created to promote the EPC Network as a global, multi-industry standard for supply chain identification through the use of RFID technology. The EPC network enables computers to 'see' physical objects, enabling manufacturers to track and trace items automatically throughout the supply chain. The EPC Network was developed by the Auto-ID Center, an academic research project headquartered at M.I.T., with labs at five additional research universities. The network comprises five fundamental elements: the Electronic Product Code (EPC); the ID System (EPC Tags and Readers); the Object Name Service (ONS); Physical Markup Language (PML); and Savant.
