Overview: CAM-I is a cooperative membership organization established in 1972 to support research and development in areas of strategic importance to manufacturing industries. Membership includes companies from the automotive, aerospace, defense, telecommunications, consulting, and electronics industries. CAM-I sponsors companies that work to create implementable solutions that resolve common problems for its members. CAM-I supports several programs, including: cost management systems (a forum for development of advanced cost management methods); beyond budgeting roundtable (investigating how companies can manage without budgets); next generation manufacturing systems (conducting pre-competitive research and development on manufacturing systems for the next generation enterprise); robust quality engineering (designed to create a new set of management systems that will enable companies to realize the benefits of robust design as applied to quality engineering principles); standards development; and an educational advisory board (promoting educational change to affect the 21st century manufacturing enterprise).
