Overview: Founded in 1992 to support the IEC 61131-3 programming standard for industrial controllers, PLCopen now develops, promotes and maintains a variety of programming standards for industrial controller and automation applications. PLCopen Technical Committees include: Standards, which collects member proposals for the IEC 65B WG7 working group, develops a joint positions, and distributes related information; Functions, which defines common libraries of Function (Blocks) for specific application areas; Certification and Compliance Testing, which defines a certification system for Program Support Environments (development environments); Communications, which works on the relationship between communication and programming languages; Safe Software, which prepares recommendations for applying the IEC 61131-3 standard to and adapting it for safety related applications, in particular, focused on IEC safety standards 61508 and 61511; and XML, which works on the definition of the XML schemes for all IEC 61131-3 languages.
