Overview: The EAN.UCC System was a cooperative effort of EAN International and the Uniform Code Council, Inc., each of which was a voluntary standards organization charged by its Board of Directors with the management of the EAN.UCC System. EAN International had a decentralized structure with a membership of Member Organizations (MOs) that managed the EAN system in a country or economic region. The UCC managed the numbering system for the U.S. and Canada. EAN International's head office managed the interests of its MOs and was responsible for coordinating and facilitating activities that deal with the development, management and promotion of the EAN.UCC System among the MOs.The EAN.UCC System became the EAN International-Uniform Code Council (EAN-UCC). EAN International was the global office for the more than 100 Member Organizations around the world. *In 2005 the organization changed its name to GS1, http://www.gs1uk.org/.
