Overview: The PXI Systems Alliance develops, promotes, and maintains the PXI specification, a modular instrumentation platform designed for measurement and automation applications that enable a user to select the modules they need to integrate into a single PXI system from multiple vendors. Communication between the modules uses PC-based technologies such as the 132 MB/s PCI bus, allowing communication using various software. PXI also integrates timing and synchronization into the system, so that signals can be passed between instruments without additional cabling. The PXI specification was announced in August 1997 as an open specification. The Alliance comprises a broad variety of industrial, test, and measurement companies.
