Personalization Consortium, Inc. (PCI)
Overview: PCI was formed to promote the development and use of one-to-one marketing technology and practices on the World Wide Web. It encouraged the development of electronic commerce that delivers personalized electronic marketing while articulating best practices and technologies that protected the interests of consumers. A key objective of the PCI was to gather information needed to formulate ethical principles that its members agreed to abide by as a means to establish practices for online privacy on the Internet and related consumer protections. The PCI planned to achieve these goals by sponsoring research, developing industry standards, promoting the benefits of personalized electronic marketing, and working with other advocacy groups to ensure the responsible use of personalization technology in accordance with its proposed privacy monitoring and assurance program.
