Overview: The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) promotes the development and deployment of interoperable products and services for data switching and routing using optical networking technologies. Its goals include: encouraging co-operation among telecom industry participants (equipment manufacturers, telecom service providers and end users); promoting development of optical internetworking products; promoting nationwide and worldwide compatibility and interoperability; encouraging input to national and international standards bodies; and identifying, selecting, augmenting and publishing optical internetworking specifications. OIF's purpose is to accelerate the deployment of interoperable optical internetworks (data networks composed of routers and data switches interconnected by optical networking elements) and their associated technologies.
