Multimedia Communications Forum (MMCF)
Overview: The Multimedia Communications Forum (MMCF) was created in 1993 to support open, vendor-neutral, network- independent multimedia communications architectures and solutions. MMCF was not platform or technology specific, and sought to create models which work across both private and public network platforms, while influencing and embracing existing and emerging networked multimedia standards. The MMCF promoted a broad systems approach through the creation of specifications, the education of the industry worldwide, and through alliances with other industry groups working towards complementary objectives. MMCF cooperated with standards bodies and industry forums to share results and avoid duplication, and maintained liaisons with leading multimedia standard setting consortia. It also sought to act as a central clearing house for all multimedia communications-related standards, specifications and recommendations.
