Overview: The Debian Project is a volunteer organization to support the Debian operating system, which is composed of free software run on the Linux or FreeBSD kernel. The Project has three foundational documents: The Debian Social Contract, the Debian Free Software Guidelines, and the Debian Constitution. Debian is developed by over 3,000 volunteers and supported by donations through several non-profit organizations. It has access to online repositories hosting over 37,500 software packages and advances security and development patches.
