Overview: The Debian Project is a volunteer organization to support the Debian operating system, which is composed of free software run on the Linux or FreeBSD kernel. The Project has three foundational documents: The Debian Social Contract, the Debian Free Software Guidelines, and the Debian Constitution. Debian is developed by over 3,000 volunteers and supported by donations through several nonprofits organizations. It has access to online repositories hosting over 37,500 software packages and advances security and development patches.
